CALIBRATING YOUR EXPECTATIONS

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts then your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8

To calibrate: to adjust or mark something so that it can be used in an accurate and exact way. (Merriam Webster)

2016 has now come and gone… and the new year has already started. So many of us start the new year with sayings of “New Year, New Me”  or ” 2017 is my year” etc… But I want to bring to your attention that every lasting change has to start in your core belief. We might have big dreams for ourselves, but if our core belief thinking is somewhat limited, we will always veer towards our internal beliefs. Let me explain!  Someone might WANT with every fiber of his soul, to live an abundant life, they might WANT to succeed in life. (Notice the emphasis on “want”). But if their core beliefs are not aligned with this desire, if deep inside, they believe that all they will ever know is a mediocre, lacking life… that is what they will experience.

What kind of internal conversations are you having with yourself? When you’re “face to face” with yourself, what kind of thoughts are you entertaining? Deep down, do you believe that you are not called to have meaningful relationships in your life? Deep down, when bad things happen to you, what’s your first response? Do you say : “These things always happen to me…” or “When it rains, it pours…”?

For 2017, I want to encourage you to calibrate your thoughts, calibrate your expectations. The bible says that God’s thoughts are not our thoughts. But I believe that He can “elevate” our thoughts to His level, so that we don’t stay stuck in our mediocre way of thinking.

I believe that 2017 can be your best year yet, do you believe it?

Until next time,

xoxo
