Porto! What a nice little discovery! I fell in love with Porto, the minute we stepped out of the train! I’m kidding, but the minute we entered the heart of the city, I was already conquered! 🥰
Even though it’s considered the 2nd largest city of Portugal, you don’t feel it at all. There’s something about coastal European cities that puts me at ease. I felt the same way visiting the French Riviera as well as San Sebastian. The pace of life is different and you actually stop and enjoy life to the fullest. (Side-note: Now that I’m back in Montreal, I’m trying to adopt a slower pace of life… Not quite sure it’ll be 100% achievable, as you know, life has different seasons… but that’s a message for another time 😉)
Our guesthouse was well located, just a few minutes away from “Cais da Ribeira”, the popular waterfront strip of cafes, restaurants and shops overlooking the River Douro. As we weren’t spending much time in Porto, the one thing I really wanted to visit was the famous double deck bridge “Dom Luis”. The view on the other side of the river (Vila Nova de Gaia) is phenomenal. We walked alongside the marina and took the Teleferico (cable car)! What a view! We ended up at the Jardim do Morro enjoying our time there and taking in the view!
The next morning, we went to the “World of Discoveries Interactive Museum” where Chloe had a blast! We then took the rest of the day to explore the beautiful city of Porto, indulging of course in natas and gelatos!
Fun fact: we almost missed our train ride back to Lisboa, because the taxi, our hotel had ordered was too small for all of our luggage. We basically had to wait close to 30 minutes for another taxi to come pick us up. We literally arrived to the train station 2 minutes before departure! Thank God for our taxi driver who helped us carry our luggage all the way to the platform!
