I have been living in Montreal, Canada for over 11 years now and I’ve only visited Ottawa (Ontario), Quebec City and Tadoussac (where you can observe some majestic whales!!). So, my husband and I decided to venture out and visit this beautiful land which constitutes Canada. We’ve always wanted to visit Niagara Falls; therefore, it was a no-brainer for us!
Even though we knew we were going there for a while now, we booked the hotel the day before taking the road. We couldn’t have been more last minute than that. Being the control freak that I am, you already know that this was not my doing! – I’m pointing at you Hubby 😉. But in all seriousness, this trip has been the most laid back trip we’ve had in terms of planning. I knew which main attractions I wanted to visit, but our days were not planned out to the max.
Day 1:
It was a LONG drive! We arrived at our hotel pretty late in the evening, we had made several stops during the drive to stretch our legs and eat, not to mention that we’ve got stuck in a massive traffic jam going through Toronto. However seeing the Falls right across our windows was magical. The spectacular fireworks display at 10:00 was the cherry on top! (I just wished that it lasted more than 10 min!)
Day 2:
This day we got our workout on! We left Chloe’s stroller at the hotel, because we’ve figured that everything was within walking distance! But, boy oh boy! We didn’t realized how much walking we would be doing. We walked along the strip back and forth deciding which restaurant to go to, rode the Skywheel, visited the Hershey Museum store. We also got to enjoy the famous “Full Mist” boat tour of the Niagara River with the Hornblower Cruise and got up close and personal with the American Falls, the Bridal Veil Falls and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls! We didn’t realize that the Falls Incline Railway was just streets down, so we hiked all the way up to our hotel with a sleeping baby! We didn’t make the same mistake come dusk, when we went to partake in the daily fireworks display.
Day 3:
“Everyone loves Marineland!” We had to visit Marineland while in Niagara Falls. I particularly loved the show with the dolphins, the beluga whales doing their tricks. At first, Chloe was not a big fan but as the show went on, they “grew on her”. The other attractions were not really baby friendly and the sun was blazing hot so we cut our trip short. Up next, we drove to Niagara on the lake to catch a wine tasting tour at the Peller Estates Winery & Restaurants. The 10below Peller Icewine lounge was the highlight of the tour for me where I got to serve icewine behind the ice bar ! Who gets to say that they drank icewine in an igloo-like lounge constructed out of a 13, 607 kilos of ice and kept at a frosty 10 º below zero!?
Day 4:
And just like that our stay at Niagara Falls was over, but before going back home we had to make a stop at Terre Bleu (Milton, Ontario) and walk through their amazing lavender fields and of course, have a scoop or two of lavender ice-cream.
Until next time,
xoxo
