BARCELONA SUMMER’19 | TRAVEL DIARIES

Most of you probably know that my sister is getting married this summer in Portugal! (Or by the time I release this post, she’s already married and on her way to her honeymoon)

We decided to go to Spain before traveling to Portugal for the wedding. Our first stop was Barcelona!

When we arrived at our beautiful hotel, we went to the hotel’s restaurant to have a quick bite. We later went to nap however, I was determined to not deter from my well “thought out” itinerary.

We landed in Barcelona a little before noon (local time), and I haven’t really slept in the plane so I was pretty exhausted.

Little did I know that sheer will and determination mean nothing when your daughter ends up sick by jetlag! Yes! You read that right! JETLAG!

After waking up from her nap, Chloe started saying that she was not feeling well. All of the sudden she was vomiting. However, the weird thing was whenever she wasn’t vomiting, she was her perky self.. so we weren’t sure if we should go out or not.

So the first night, we decided to take it slow and we visited the Sagrada Familia Basilica and the surrounding area since we were staying nearby.

I have to admit that I was wrestling with negative thoughts by then. Let me explain…

Before leaving for the airport, our front door suddenly didn’t want to open when the taxi arrived! We had to get out by the garage door. And now, in Barcelona, Chloe was vomiting for no reason… And to make matters worse, it started raining like there’s no tomorrow and the weather forecast was not looking great for the rest of our trip. If one didn’t have faith in God, you could declare that vacation doomed from the start and might as well pack your bag and go back home!

However, I was not prepared to give up. I decided that my God could stop the rain if He wanted to and even if He didn’t, we wouldn’t let that ruin our trip. In the morning, we would go to a pharmacist to help us out with Chloe’s jetlag!

You should know when traveling in Europe in August, the locals usually take their month-long vacation around that time. We passed by 2 pharmacies before finding one that was opened. Thankfully, they were able to help us and gave us something that would stop the vomiting!

Hommage to Swimming (Platja de Barceloneta)

After a late breakfast, we took the train to go to Barceloneta. Still mindful of Chloé’s situation, we decided to take it easy this day. We walked alongside the marina and ended up at Platja de Barceloneta(Barceloneta’s Beach) where we enjoyed a cool drink. We later took the Teleferico and saw the beautiful views from Montjuic park.

The following day, we went for some shopping near Plaça de Catalunya, discovered La Rambla, sampled some local food at La Boqueria Mercat, and of course had a flower gelato in the Gothic Quarter from none other than Amorino Gelato.

For the evening, we strolled through Passeig de Gracia and had an amazing dinner at El Nacional. If you’re in Barcelona, you should definitely have a meal at one of the restaurants at El Nacional.

For our last day in Barcelona, we went to the Aquarium de Barcelona, where all your Baby Shark 🦈dreams can come true! Chloé definitely had a blast there! We decided to have lunch at Passeig de Gracia, and maybe squeeze in a last minute shopping.

Now… for the moment you’ve been waiting for: A recap of some of the outfits I wore while in Barcelona.
